CAPE HATTERAS, NORTH CAROLINA WATERSPOUT

August 2005:

In the late summer of 2005, some severe weather moved through the North Carolina region and spawned several waterspouts in Cape Hatteras. A friend of mine from school, Jimmy Vinson, who was down there for the week surfing, captured these photos below. This is just a few of the photos he shot that day.

Here is Jimmy posing in front of the waterspout.

Here is a nice close up of the base of the waterspout just offshore.

Here, Jimmy was looking south along the beach as one of the first waterspout was pulling away and the second was forming to the left or east in this shot. As you can see, there were people all along the beach.

Here is a shot looking down the beach at all of the people standing on the beach watching the waterspouts spin harmlessly out at sea.

Awesome view of Mother Nature in action.

This photo shows the second waterspout as it was moving south and east as folks watched from the safety of dry land.

Close up shot of the base of the second waterspout. You can clearly see the structure of the waterspout and the water it was churning up.
